Blood Street Sculls

Blood Street Sculls is the formidable name under which our rowers compete in the summer and fall seasons.  (During the spring, our junior rowers compete as Lyme-Old Lyme High School, with the recent addition of a contingent rowing as Valley Regional High School.) The Blood Street name originated when Fred Emerson founded the club in the 1960s and provided boat storage space at his home on Blood Street in Lyme.  Fred was a great believer in rowing for all ages, and his goals are now incorporated in our club charter:  Our purpose is to support and encourage rowing at Lyme-Old Lyme High School and also in the surrounding communities.

OLRA moved in 1988 to its new Fred Emerson Boathouse at the other end of Rogers Lake.  But we have retained the name Blood Street Sculls to honor Fred.  And if the name intimidates rival teams, we don't mind that either.
